IDC Staff Instructor Course
PADI IDC Staff Instructors are PADI Master Scuba Diver Trainers who have successfully completed an IDC Staff Instructor course. During their training, IDC Staff Instructors overview the entire PADI Instructor Development program and learn to act as assistants during instructor-level training courses. IDC Staff Instructors work with PADI Course Directors to develop instructor candidates’ teaching abilities as well as shape their attitudes as dive professionals. IDC Staff Instructors are also authorized to independently conduct PADI Assistant Instructor courses.
Prerequisites
To enroll in a PADI IDC Staff Instructor course, an individual must:
1. Be a renewed, Teaching status PADI Master Scuba Diver Trainer.
2. Agree to conduct all PADI certification courses and experience programs using methods consistent with PADI Standards and philosophy as outlined in the PADI Instructor Manual.
3. Agree to use the PADI System and components in its entirety.
Training and Certification
The IDC Staff Instructor course is divided into four steps:
Preassessment
Knowledge Development
Evaluation Training
Auditing an IDC
Since the course includes auditing an IDC, it must be conducted in conjunction with an IDC. IDC Staff Instructor candidates must satisfactorily complete all course performance requirements to be certified as PADI IDC Staff Instructors.
Materials
Required
• All materials required of instructor candidates
• PADI Course Director Manual
• Knowledge Development Presentation Evaluation Form
• Confined Water Presentation Evaluation slate
• Open Water Presentation Evaluation slate
Performance Requirements
1. Score 80 percent on each of the Dive Theory Exams
2. Score 80 percent on the PADI Systems, Standards and Procedures Exam
3. Perform all 24 dive skills in the Skill Evaluation, scoring 80 total points, with
no individual score below 3.
4. Score at least 4.0 on a knowledge development teaching presentation.
5. Score at least 4.0 on a confined water teaching presentation.
6. Attend the four IDC Staff Instructor Course Knowledge Development
sessions.
7. Meet evaluation scoring parameters:
a. Match the control score on four out of six knowledge development
evaluation criteria sections for two out of three teaching presentations.
b. Match the control score on three out of the five confined water evaluation
criteria sections for two out for three teaching presentations.
c. Match the control score on three out of the five open water evaluation
criteria sections for two out of three teaching presentations.
8. Audit a complete IDC by observing all required IDC curriculum sections
To apply for certification, an IDC Staff Instructor candidate submits to the appropriate PADI Office a completed IDC Staff Instructor Application signed by the PADI Course Director who conducted the course, along with a photo and application fee. Upon approval of the application, PADI will issue a PADI IDC Staff Instructor card.
Duties
A renewed Teaching status PADI IDC Staff Ins. is authorized to:
1. Independently teach and certify PADI Assistant Instructors.
2. Conduct IDC training segments under the supervision of a PADI Course Director.
3. Evaluate and critique instructor candidate knowledge development, confined water and open water teaching presentations.
4. Provide counseling and remedial training for instructor candidates and IDC Staff Instructor candidates.
5. Assist with training during instructor-level continuing education programs.
6. Observe the orientation and closing sessions of PADI Instructor Examinations.
